Getting To Know You

1. Is there snow on the ground where you live right now?
2. What is one thing you love about snow?
3. Have you ever eaten snow ice cream?
4. Have you ever made a snow fort? a snow man? What else have you made of snow?
5. Do you think you would miss snow if you lived in a place where it doesn't snow?
6. What else do you have to say about snow?

(me: 1. nope; 2. it's pretty to look at and brightens up everything; 3. yes - it was yummy; 4. yes, yes, snow angel; 5. yes; 6. shoveling it gives you big muscles...)

1. Yes! Hooray!!
2. sledding
3. No. I actually think eating snow is kind of gross :)
4. Yes, last year we made a snow fort out of the big pile left by the plow at the end of the driveway. Yes, I've made snowmen before, but not yet this year...though we found that someone had made a snow PIG at a nearby park earlier this winter. When my brother and I were little, we once re-created the Snowman House of Horrors from Calvin and Hobbes in our front yard.
5. Yes, absolutely.
6. A lot of snow melted a couple weeks ago and I truly missed it until yesterday when we got a couple inches again. I love to sled in it and watch it come down, I love how it makes everything look frosted, I enjoy shoveling, and this year I hope to try cross country skiing as well.

1. Yeah. I've seen worse.
2. It's pretty when it falls. And it tickles my nose.
3. No. Which is not to say that I haven't eaten snow.
4. Oh the snowmen I've built. And the snow forts. And snow caves. There was a pretty serious attempt at an igloo that failed.
5. Oh lord yes.
6. The Snow Man

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place
For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

1. Heck yes. It's been snowing for a few days straight. Weirdly, it seems to be snowing, like, 6 inches a day, but there are only 5 inches or so on the ground after 3 days. I'm confused about the weather here.

2. I love how my toddler likes nothing more than to throw herself down into it, shout "I fell down!" and then eat it.

3. I'm not sure what counts. I have, many times, eaten snow in a bowl with Hershey's syrup on top. But I think there are more involved things people do.

4. I have made snow forts, snow men, snow slides, snow houses.

5. Yeah, I'd miss snow. But I'm looking forward to spring coming in March instead of how late it always arrived in Wisconsin. I like snow but I'm happy when the winter's over.

6. I love how, after you play in the snow, you get to come inside and have hot cocoa.
